He was my private instructor 2.5 years. He saw my potential and saw me as a somebody when I was a nobody in high school. He helped open doors for me and show me how to be the best version of myself musically and as a person. Having somebody so supportive got me to where I am today. I am currently a music education major in my junior year, and I wouldn’t have gotten here without his help.

From 1996 through 2007, I had the honor of teaching alongside Michael as an assistant marching band director. I also works closely with him with his concert and jazz bands in this time. Michael still serves as an inspiration to me to this day. He inspires me with his love for music- especially jazz, but even more so by the way in which he relates to his students. His blend of old school “grit” and his humorous and inspiring manner of teaching make him one of a kind. Michael continues to be a stalwart of the Mayfield City School District.

I have worked with Michael at Skidmore College at The Essentially Ellington Camp. MAN CAN PLAY. He walked in, auditioned for one of the bands and took lead part. Wonderful sound, great improvisor, and an even better person. Shared many stories nd laughs with home over manhattans and cigars. One of the best around.
